REAL ID costs and appointment rules change. This is the record of when we verified the dataset and what moved. We re-check on an annual cadence and note changes here as we find them.

    Initial 50-state + DC dataset published

    First full pass of REAL ID cost, appointment policy, and issuing-agency links for all 50 states and DC, each read from the state's official DMV REAL ID page. The federal document checklist is cited to DHS and the airport-fallback detail to TSA.

    Added the $45 TSA ConfirmID airport fee

    Verified against TSA's announcement: effective February 1, 2026, travelers who reach the checkpoint without an acceptable ID are referred to TSA's ConfirmID identity-verification process, which costs $45, is valid for a 10-day travel window, and is paid via Pay.gov. The fee buys an attempt to verify identity — it is not guaranteed. We surface this on the home page, every state page, and the dedicated airport page.
